November 12, 2020 – Ms. Everhart moderated and participated in a panel discussion on Everything Employers and Employees (and their Counsel) Need to Know About Electronic Communication Policies and Social Media at the virtual 14th Annual Section of Labor and Employment Law Conference sponsored by the American Bar Association in November. The panel will discuss a variety of issues related to the use of personal electronic devices for work, tweets, email searches and posts on personal social media accounts.

October 15, 2020 – Cynthia Sass presented First Amendment in Public Employment to the attorneys of the Florida Department of Health. Ms. Sass was honored to be asked to co-present these materials with Don Slesnick to this group of esteemed colleagues. Due to scheduling issues, Mr. Slesnick was unable to participate.

July 9, 2020 – Janet Wise moderated the Ethics and Sanctions Committee’s panel presentation during the virtual conference presented by the National Employment Lawyers Association. The panel discussed “social distancing” and “masking” as they pertain to the ethics of attorneys who interview employee-witnesses and also attorney candor to the Court.

March 2020 – Yvette Everhart moderated a segment on practicing before the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity—Reemployment Assistance, the agency responsible for administering unemployment benefits at the Practice Before State Labor & Employment Agencies seminar scheduled for March 2020 in Tallahassee. The seminar was sponsored by the Labor and Employment Law Section of The Florida Bar. Yvette was among several distinguished speakers at this event.

February 8, 2020 – Cynthia Sass spoke on the topic The Intersection of Employment Law and Criminal Law at the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers Regional Programming Committee event in St. Petersburg, Florida. Cynthia’s presentation provided practitioners with guidance on how to identify and handle employee and employer criminal activity in the workplace, such as claims of employee theft or embezzlement, employees viewing pornography on employer’s devices and employer’s illegal activity such as fraud on the government. She also discussed best practices and ethical considerations for addressing these issues.

February 7, 2020 – Yvette Everhart presented at the 20th Labor and Employment Law Annual Update and Certification Review in February 2020. She discussed the procedural law for federal and Florida equal employment opportunity laws. This annual event is sponsored by The Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education Committee and the Labor and Employment Law Section.

Cynthia Sass was to participate in a panel discussion on The Impact of AI, Automation and Robotics in the Workplace at the Midwinter Meeting of the Employment Rights & Responsibilities Committee of the American Bar Association in Puerto Rico which was postponed due to the pandemic. The panel plans to focus on how automation, AI, and robotics’ performance of worker tasks raise significant questions about workplace transition and employee dislocation, and address what stakeholders should focus on to capitalize on opportunities and to meet the challenges to come.
